Design & Mentorship

Responsibilities

With the Barrett marketing team I was responsible for creating collateral for events to drive participation and contribute to fostering the tightly knit community Barrett is known for. I worked with a group of student workers to create marketing collateral for print, TV, and social media outputs.

Being my first digital design job, I grew a lot with the team and stayed on in a limited capacity to lead critiques, provide guidance to new designers, and provide UX help with the recent website overhaul (bringing it onto the University’s design system).

Project Management & Collaboration

From learning to use a collaborative task board to participating in weekly critiques, one of the most beneficial parts of my position with Barrett was the insight I gained from peers and leadership. Our team used Trello to assign projects and keep track of progress, familiarizing me with the basics of an agile workflow.

As I became a senior member of the team I encouraged collaboration with this tool by leading in ongoing critiques, and reminding the team to look at others' work for inspiration.

An Introduction to Responsive Design

I was responsible for creating collateral to be put out as social media posts and stories, flyers, and TV advertisements on a regular basis. While these were static dimensions, putting my designs into 4 distinctly different aspect ratios was my introduction to considering how content would be organized and reorganize based on the platform it was viewed on.

I have designed collateral in this way for over 100 events making the process of restructuring content for different aspect ratios nearly second nature. I put this to use with an opportunity to redesign Barrett Website when we migrated it onto the universities responsive design system.
